Kindergarten Literacy Night
Research indicates that children who begin third grade struggling in reading and writing rarely catch up with their peers and struggle all the way through high school. Help start your child off on the right path by joining our kindergarten teachers for a night of literacy learning at Hollywood Hills Elementary School. Parents will learn strategies that they can use to help their children learn how to read! Some activities will include sight word activities, suggested book lists, on-line resources, writing strategies, phonemic awareness activities etc. We hope to see you there!

"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more you learn, the more places you'll go."
The State of Florida adopted new standards for English/Language Arts and Mathematics last summer. Students in grades 3 to 5 will be tested on these standards in March and April. The new assessment is called the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA). For more information on this test, please visit the "Parent" section of http://www.fsassessments.org.Read more...
HHE is dedicated to helping our students socially and emotionally, while also focusing on learning and preparing our students to be college and career ready. This year, we are starting a new program to assist our students. Select students will participate in a mentoring program. The mentors working with these students are the dedicated staff from our school who volunteered to form a special relationship with his or her mentee. Mentors and mentees will meet weekly. We are very excited about this new program!
Our annual field day will take place in the month of December. Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in some exciting NEW events this year. Broward Assessment of Florida Standards Testing
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students participated in BAFS (Broward Assessment of Florida Standards) testing in English/ Language Arts and Mathematics during the last week in October. Fifth graders were also assessed in the area of Science. Teachers will receive the results of this assessment and use the information to adjust curriculum to meet the needs of our students. BAFS testing will also occur during the first week of February.
Emergency Safety Procedures
It is imperative that our staff and students are prepared in the event of an onsite emergency. Specific procedures for lockdowns and evacuations are reviewed with staff and students throughout the year. As part of the preparedness process, we also regularly conduct drills. This includes fire drills, tornado drills, and an annual emergency drill (lockdown or evacuation). After an emergency lockdown or evacuation drill is conducted, a letter will be sent home with the students in order to keep parents informed.
